Routine Doctor Check-Up - Anemia! Hemoglobin 8.8. Don't worry too much, her white count is normal...which means no leukemia. |

Bone Marrow Biopsy done - Anemia not improving. Abnormal Bone Marrow discovered - Diagnosis - Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Must have blood tests every month to monitor progression. Mia was tired easily, but tried to maintain a normal life. |

Blood counts no longer stable. A viral infection crashed her hemoglobin to 6.2 - She receives her first transfusion of red blood cells. She is never able to stop them....she needs them every 2-3 weeks. |

She doesn't want to live like this anymore...with transfusions every 2 weeks. Not to mention, her bone marrow is now producing blasts which means Leukemia is brewing....the worst kind. Acute Myelogenous Leukemia with Myelodyplastic Syndrome preceding........there is no cure. A bone marrow transplant is the only hope. |

First transplant failed to engraft and Mia endured another one which included radiation and massive amounts of chemotherapy. She was very sick and almost died from liver failure.....but she survived. |

We made it 100 days.....thought we were homefree with minimal Graft Vs Host disease.....we will win!!!! |
